Thickeners, also known as gelling agents, are common chemical substances found in daily life that effectively increase the viscosity of latexes and liquids. These substances not only increase the viscosity of the system but also ensure its stable suspension or turbidity, and can even form a gel structure. Familiar thickeners often possess emulsifying properties and, based on their origin, can be divided into two main categories: naturally synthesized and chemically synthesized. Therefore, different types of thickeners differ in their mechanisms of action. Next, we will briefly introduce several main types of thickeners and their related principles.
